Is There Not A Cause?

David had been sent by his father to bring food to his brothers who together with the Israelites were at war against the Philistines. The war was not going well as there was a giant on the Philistine's side named Goliath who came out every day to threaten and defy the armies of the Living God. We are told in 1 Samuel 17:24 that

".. all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were dreadfully afraid."

David came into the camp, and questioned the men about what was going on. The men answered and told him about this giant and questioned why David was there. His own brother was angry with him and asked him "why did you come down here?." His brother accused him of being prideful and spoke to him with an angry voice. David had heard the threat of Goliath and he answered his brother with this answer.

"Is there not a cause?"

David saw that this giant was not only coming against the men of Israel but he was coming against the Almighty God and defying His power to deliver His people. David knew the Lord and spoke these words,

"the Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine."

And so David went up against the Philistine with five stones and a sling. Goliath, when seeing David, belittled him for he was but a youth and Goliath was very big. David was not afraid of Goliath for He knew the power of God to deliver him and he spoke to Goliath with these words.

"You come to me with a sword, with a spear and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defiled. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand and I will strike you and take your head from you?"

     Then David said,

"then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear, for the battle is the Lord's and He will give you into our hands."

The cause for David was to destroy the one speaking against God and speaking against His army. He defended Israel with one stone and slew the giant and the name of the Lord was glorified.

Our Savior Jesus came to earth with a cause in His heart. It was to become the perfect sacrifice for us that we might be reconciled to God. Man had fallen so deep into sin and through out the Old Testament we learn the only sacrifice for sin was a lamb without blemish. Jesus came as the perfect sacrifice and unlike the old way of preparing that sacrifice year after year Jesus came and gave Himself once and for all. He came to bring us life, to shed His blood for the forgiveness of sins and to rise from the dead that He might declare victory over all the powers of darkness. He came for you and for me. He came with us in mind. He lived and died and rose again with us in His heart.

We were His cause.

Jesus didn't come with a stone against the enemy of our souls He became the stone for us. The Word of God tells us that Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone. He came that we might be restored to God and to each other in the power of His spirit. He came that we might by His grace learn to love the Lord Our God with all of our heart, mind and strength.

When He died, the enemy thought he had won. He thought it was all over and that he had the victory but praise the Lord three days later Jesus rose from the dead and declared His victory over the powers of darkness. He had accomplished what He came to do.

He had won the cause and before He was lifted into heaven he spoke to His disciples and declared to them,

"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28: 17-20).

Jesus left us with a cause. The cause is to tell all men about what He has done and about His love and mercy and grace that is available to all who will receive Him. The cause is eternal life with Our Father in heaven that can only come through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. He tells us that there is no way to the Father but through Him and that we are to declare His works among the nations.

Are you going forth with a cause?

Does a fire burn in your heart to tell others about Him and His love. The enemy would like to try and stand against us and mock the words of the Living God. He attempts to be a Goliath to us but he is the liar and the father of it.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever and HE is coming back for His church.

Friends let us go forth and stand against the enemy of our souls and speak the name of Jesus over every situation, every circumstance and every lie of the evil one. Let us speak the name of Jesus over the sick, the hurting and the broken. He shed His blood for us, He took stripes on His back for our healing. He rose from the dead that we too might have life through the power of the Holy Spirit. We can be filled with His power, we can go forth in His power and declare His works among men. Pray and ask the Lord to fill you with His Spirit that you might go forth for the cause of Jesus Christ. Do not be ashamed to tell others about Him but rejoice with each other for Our Savior shed His blood that we might all have life.

He died for the whole world, not just a select few but for everyone and they can only know about Him if you decide in your heart that there is a cause to share His good news with all.

A cause to tell them that there is a power from on high that will deliver them from the hands of the evil one and from death. Jesus said in John 11:25-26

"I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"

Is your family not worth it, are your friends not worth it are not even your enemies worth it. Jesus thought they were worth the cause and so we should too. The Bible tells us that it is not God's will for any to perish. He loves everyone! So let us pray and go forth in Him with a cause in our hearts to win souls into the Kingdom of God. Let us go forth with a cause and as David declared God's deliverance so let us also declare His Good News to those we love. Let us go and tell the world JESUS CHRIST LIVES!
