Will You Watch and Pray

by Pat Couchman

Jesus went to the garden with the disciples, His friends
His soul was distraught, He cried out in sorrow and pain
He asked them to pray as He called to the Father again
For He knew His very life was about to come to an end.
Instead they fell asleep they did not keep watch
Even though their Savior was crying out from His heart.

Many of us enter into that same garden some days
Where are hearts are offered to God in so many ways
We want our friends to come with us and watch and pray
But they have things to do that keep them busy that day.

We walk some hard roads and we feel all alone
Thinking no one understands or hears our moans
But even when friends fail and maybe even fall asleep
We can rest assured there is a Savior who never sleeps

He his there with us as we cry out, "Lord not my will be done
But for Your glory Lord finish the work You have begun"
We are like Jesus Father, saying if this cup can pass from me
But we trust in Your faithfulness, your grace and mercy
To bring us through no matter what place we are in
Whether alone or with friends who may fall asleep now and then

It is not that they don't care about what we are going through
Sometimes they are just tired of the trials they see us go through
For not everyone understands that it is all for Your glory and grace
But we know through You Jesus there is nothing we can't face.

So Lord teach us to walk to the gardens of this life together as friends
To stay awake and keep watch until we see Your intended end
To know Lord you have strengthened us to watch and to pray
For that friend we love so much let our heart and mind stay

That we may share in the praises of the victory that come their way
Though the night seemed very long we can now see the break of day
No man is an island Lord and we all need each other every day
If for no other reason than to know there is someone to watch and to pray.
