It Shall Be Well!

by Pat Couchman

"It shall be well," her husband heard her say
As she passed by him in the field that day
Earlier he had placed their child in her arms
And all the while she remained calm

The child had cried, "my head, my head."
By noon that day the child was dead
She placed him in the prophet's bed
She did not panic but went to the prophet instead.

Elisha's servant saw her coming his way
And tried to stop her from seeing him that day
When he inquired about her husband and son
She replied, "It is well," but she was not done.

She would not stop until she saw Elisha that day
And questioned him for her son's sake
I will not leave here without you she claimed
So Elisha went with her to her son to pray.

He entered the room where the body lay still
He prayed to the Lord for His perfect will
Elisha covered the body face to face
He prayed until the child was awake

Into his mother's arms Elisha gave the boy
Filling this faithful mother's heart with joy
Surely the power of God flowed that day
When "it is well, was all she could say.

This woman's faith spoke to defeat
When "it shall be well," she did speak
Never doubting her son would by okay
Only knowing she needed the prophet to pray.

Lord, grant us the faith to say, "it shall be well."
Even when we stand against the forces of hell
Knowing Your word is truth and You cannot lie
Give us the faith to lift Your name on High.

Let us not share the problems with everyone we meet
But let us bring them to Your throne and bow at Your feet
Knowing that a greater than Elisha has called us His own
And in your arms we are safe and will never be alone.
