You
Were Walking
by Pat Couchman
From
the time you took your very first step
You
were walking toward the cross
When
you were twelve and your parents sight you left
You were walking toward the cross
When
you turned water into wine at the wedding feast
You were walking toward the cross
As
you sat on the hill and taught the multitudes at your feet
You were walking toward the cross
When
you walked down the roads among the crowds
You were walking toward the cross
When
the blind man called for mercy out loud
You were walking toward the cross
As
you held the children that came close to you
You were walking toward the cross
As
you were healing the sick and raising the dead
You were walking toward the cross
When
you told the disciples let us go to the other side
You were walking toward the cross
When
you spoke the words that in You we should abide
You
were walking toward the cross
As
you rebuked the fevers, opened eyes and ears
You were walking toward the cross
As
you healed the woman who had been bound eighteen years
You were walking toward the cross
As
you set the captives free and spoke of Our Father's love
You were walking toward the cross
When
the disciples saw the heavens and heard God's voice from above
You were walking toward the cross
When
you went to the garden and cried out in prayer
You were walking toward the cross
As
you showed love to all around you and treated them with care
You were walking toward the cross
When
you sat and ate your last meal with the one who would betray
You were walking toward the cross
As
they beat you and struck you and not a word you did say
You were walking toward the cross
When
you took your last steps up toward Calvary that day
You were walking toward the cross.
You
knew what was ahead of you yet you knew it was the only way
You walked and then they nailed you to the cross
Your
hands and feet nailed, the sword piercing your side
You came to this very place to die
You
cried Father forgive them they know not what they do
You
breathed your last you accomplished what you came to do
For
the world My Lord you walked to the cross
That there would be a way to save all those who were lost
The
sins of the world were upon you on that cross
Love so perfect and so willing pouring forth from you
For
my sins you walked to the cross each day
Never looking back for you knew the price you had to pay
Lord
Jesus you have spoken and You said "Follow Me"
On the days we think we cannot take another step
We
are reminded that through Your death came Victory
For
though they put you in a grave and considered you to be dead
The third day came and all that was found was the cloth from you
head
As
you walked each day toward that cross there was something else
you could see
That made it all worth it for You knew God had the victory
Death
could not hold you and you rose from the dead
Victory
was won when you bruised the enemy's head
All
power in earth and in heaven has now been given to You
For you were willing to walk to the cross never fearing what man
could do.
And
now Lord we follow and try to walk in your steps by faith in You
But sometimes we lose focus and we can't see all that we must
do
Each
step that we take now brings us closer to the promise of eternal
life
Help us Lord to walk as you did for You have made us Your bride
Jesus sometimes I think I cannot take another
step or go through another day
Then I hear Your Spirit say hold on to Jesus for He has made the
way
We
live by faith and not by sight and we settle our minds on You
Praying each day that somehow we can be faithful in all that we
do.
Jesus
we need Your strength, Your endurance, and Your patience too
To pick up our cross and never give up but to keep pressing through
For
there is laid up for us treasures in Your Kingdom we cannot see
Treasures you purchased as you walked to the place where you would
hang on a tree
Fill
us Lord with Your power from on High that we might soar as an
eagle in the sky
Not looking to the left or to the right but keeping our eyes on
You the one pierced in Your side
That
we may know the power of Your resurrection, the fellowship of
Your sufferings
Knowing that through all the steps you walked it was perfect love
You did bring.
We
worship You Lord Oh King of Kings, Savior and Lover of our Soul
And because of You Lord we keep pressing on toward the goal
For
the prize of the upward call of God in you Jesus Christ Our King
Let us be found faithful Lord and to You we ask for souls to bring.
You
walked Lord knowing your life would come to an end at the cross
But in Your heart you knew the promise of God could not be lost
For
this was His plan from the beginning of time
That you would walk to the cross for all mankind.

feel free to share this with anyone or to put on a page.
May God bless and keep you and may we all keep on walking.
Love in Christ, Pat
