A Love Story

On January 13, 1946 Rosalie and Tom spoke these words:

"Till death do us part"

They had met just six days earlier when Rosalie's brother John bought Tom home with him on leave from the Navy. Their dates consisted of sitting on the front porch of Rosalie's home. Tom was due to go back to the ship and refused to leave without her being his wife. Her father gave his blessing, plans were made and in a few days a beautiful wedding was held.

After Tom left, the love letters would come every day, their love shared in their written words, waiting for the moment they would see each other again. They were blessed and six days of romance turned into a lifetime of happiness.

This last September Tom went home to be with the Lord but not without leaving a family built on love. This January would have been 54 years of marriage. If you were to ask Rosalie today what was the secret that kept her marriage so strong she would tell you it was love. Not just any kind of love but the love that we read about in the Word of God.

You will find it in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7. This love is described as the

"...love that suffers long and is kind; the love that does not envy; the love that does not parade itself and is not puffed up; the love that does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; it does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth. It is the love that bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things"

The very first part of the next verse tell us

"love never fails"

Rosalie and Tom shared this kind of love. Their marriage withstood all the trials of life because it was grounded in the love of God. A few days after the service we opened Tom's Bible and found a note in it that said,

"...remember me in heaven."

We don't know when he wrote this but the day we found it the tears started to flow in her eyes, it was the last love letter from him and she holds it close to her heart knowing she will see him again in heaven.

Jesus has left us a love letter. It is His Word. It is the most beautiful love letter ever written and one we can all hold close in our hearts. He is love and to know Him is to know love. Rosalie and Tom could not have walked through all the trials of life without His love. Their love letters to each other will be cherished in this lifetime. The love letter that prevails in our hearts today is the one that we will take with us into eternity. From Genesis to Revelations you will find words of love, words of comfort, words of strength and words of hope. You will find a father, a husband, a brother, a friend and a lover.

You will find the One whose love will never end and that even death cannot separate us from. You will find the Perfect One and His love that cast out all fear. You will find Jesus and His love written on every page and poured out to us to draw us to Him. You will meet the One who suffered and died for you and praise the Lord you will meet the One who rose from the dead and conquered death. He paid a price for you and me and today you can accept His love and His forgiveness and the blood that was shed at Calvary for you and for me. Today you can meet the Lover of your soul just by opening His love letter to you.
