Let Us Go To The Other Side

In Mark chapter 4 verse 35 Jesus said to His disciples,
"Let us go to the other side."

In Mark chapter 5 verse 1 we read

"then they came to the other side….."

There are only six verses between the two statements yet what happened in between looks very familiar to some situations in our lives.

We are going to the other side every moment of our life when it is committed to Jesus but sometimes before we see the victory there are some trials that come our way. The Bible tells us that when Jesus said,

"let us go to the other side."

They all got in the boat and went on their way.

It continues to tell us that as they crossed over a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so much that it was filling with water. We read that during this time Jesus was asleep in the stern. He was not worried or concerned, He had already spoken that they were going to the other side and He knew they would arrive. The disciples on the other hand didn't think they were going to make it. They woke Jesus up and asked Him,

"Do you not care that we are perishing?"

I wonder how many trials we go through and still ask Jesus the same question. Each storm brings us to a new level of faith and then we begin to walk and know that no matter how dark it gets God does care and He promises to bring us through and we find rest in Him. Jesus arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea,

"Peace be still."

and the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

When Jesus speaks into the storms of our lives a peace arises in us that we cannot understand.

The problem doesn't always go away but the darkness does. When we have Jesus in the boat with us there is nothing to fear. He is not afraid and He knows the end from the beginning. That is why He could rest easy in the midst of their great storm. He asked the disciples:

"Why are you so fearful?
How is it that you have no faith?"

Other times in the Bible He talks about little faith and great faith but here He spoke about no faith. They didn't know Whom they had in the boat with them because in verse 41 we read that they feared exceedingly and said to one another,

"Who can this be that even the wind and the sea obey Him?"

It had not yet been revealed to them that truly this was the Son of God and that in Him there is no fear. When we do no know who Jesus is in us and who we are in Him fear arises on every side whenever a storm comes our way. As we grow in Him and we start walking in who we are in Him the storms can no longer control us because we know without question that

"Greater is He that is in us than He that is in the world."

We walk with a new confidence and assurance that our lives are hidden in Him and He is ultimately in control. We allow Him to speak to the storms and we draw closer to Him through each trial that we go through.

Is there a storm in your life today?

Is there a problem that is overwhelming you and you think that there is no escape?

Do you feel like you are going to drown?

Are you asking like the disciples did,

"Jesus do you not care that I am perishing?"

If you are then do what the disciples did, call on Him and let Him speak to you and calm the storm for you. I am not saying the trial will just go away but I am saying that if you call on His name He will cause you to walk through it with His peace that surpasses understanding. You will know that you are not going to drown because with Jesus you will get to the other side.

I am sure that as they crossed that sea it seemed like it took forever to the disciples. They were scared but thankfully they knew where their help would come from and they called on Jesus.

Do you know where your help will come from in the midst of a storm?

Do you know without a doubt that Jesus will bring you to the other side?

I pray that if you don't that you will ask Him today to calm your storm and that you will let Him be your Peace in the midst of the storm and let Him show you that He is more than willing and more than able to take you through to the other side.
